Overall: Welsh only played one year of high school football. He redshirted in 2000 and played as a reserve in nine games in 2001. Welsh played in all 14 games as a rotating backup in 2002. He played in every game and started 11 as a junior in 2003, finishing with 50 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. Welsh started all 12 games as a senior in 2004, finishing with 27 total tackles, 4.5 TFL and two sacks. Welsh is a bit of a late-bloomer. He lacks ideal size as a DE prospect and he has limited experience dropping into coverage as a linebacker. However, his combination of speed, upper body power and explosiveness make him an intriguing late-Day 1 or early-Day 2 prospect for a team that employs a 3-4 scheme and is looking for an impact pass rusher at the "rush-LB" position.
