Overall: Mathis redshirted in 2000, became a starter for the Crimson Tide as a redshirt freshman in 2001, and was a fulltime starter from that point on. Mathis made the move from right tackle in 2003 to left guard in 2004. Mathis is versatile, durable and intelligent. He is a tall, athletic, consistent, tough and aggressive offensive guard prospect with some decent upside. He lacks great bulk and lower body strength, but he continues to get stronger and he has become extremely sound from a technique standpoint, which helps him to mask his lack of an ideal base. Mathis had one of the best individual workouts of any offensive lineman at the scouting combine and, as a result, his draft stock is at an all-time high.
