Overall: Barnes redshirted as a defensive tackle in 2000 but switched to offensive tackle during the week of practice leading up to the 2001 Rose Bowl. Barnes had started 42-consecutive games dating back to his redshirt freshman season in 2001 prior to suffering a season-ending broken wrist in practice leading up to the Oregon State game (Oct. 16). The wrist injury is completely healed and should not have any long-term effects. Barnes has good overall size and has the frame to get bigger. He is a terrific natural athlete and he also has above average strength. In terms of physical tools, Barnes ranks among the elite. The concern, however, is that Barnes was an inconsistent performance at the collegiate level and is the type that needs to be motivated in order to get the most out of him.
