Morning Skate: Hail to the rookies!

October, 11, 2007
Three cheers for three rookies who each made a mark during their respective NHL debuts on Wednesday.

Ottawa G Brian Elliott
Elliott, who enjoyed a brilliant college career at the University of Wisconsin, made the most of his first NHL start. The 22-year-old Elliott, who is serving as the Sens' backup stopper while last season's playoff star Ray Emery continues to recover from offseason surgery on his left wrist, stopped 28 of 29 shots en route to a 3-1 win over the Thrashers at Phillips Arena. He might've even had a shutout if it weren't for a brilliant individual effort by Atlanta sniper Ilya Kovalchuk.
