Tyler Seguin? Try Jordan Caron

October, 27, 2010

Over the first few Wednesdays of the new season, I've looked at most of the high-profile rookies. Today, I thought I'd step back and take a look at five under-the-radar freshman who are getting a chance to fill different roles with their respective teams.

Jordan Caron, Boston Bruins
While most of the rookie attention in Boston is centered on kid pivot Tyler Seguin (selected second overall last June), Caron (a 2009 first-round pick) has quietly earned a regular spot in the Bruins' lineup. At 6-foot-2, 202 pounds, the Quebec-born winger has good size and uses it to create confusion in front of opposing goaltenders. Caron, who turns 20 on Nov. 2, has netted a pair of goals in five games, seeing time on a line with Patrice Bergeron and Blake Wheeler. Coach Claude Julien has shown increasing confidence in Caron. After getting just 9:42 minutes in his first game, Caron received almost 15 minutes (14:49) on Saturday against the Rangers.
