Using the VUKOTA projection system of Hockey Prospectus, Insider is taking the temperature of key players on every NHL team, continuing with the Boston Bruins. For a detailed explanation of Prospectus' proprietary GVT value metric, read more here.

Note: Due to the lockout, GVT scores for 2012-13 are prorated from 48 to 82 games.

Summer Skate -- Boston Bruins

After a first-round exit in the playoffs following the 2011-12 season, the Bruins bounced back in 2013 with a run to the Stanley Cup finals, in which they were defeated by the Chicago Blackhawks. This offseason, Boston GM Peter Chiarelli pulled a couple of surprising moves by dealing former No. 2 overall pick Tyler Seguin to Dallas (getting Loui Eriksson in return) and by signing Jarome Iginla.

In a run of not-as-shocking moves, he ensured the B's will be a contender in the long run by signing center Patrice Bergeron and goalie Tuukka Rask to lucrative long-term contracts.

The Bruins should be right up at the top of the East again with veteran stars in their prime and several young players on the cusp of becoming the next wave.
