New Zealand Warriors hooker Nathaniel Roache misses flight to Australia

The New Zealand Warriors' trip to Australia has hit a hurdle with back-up hooker Nathaniel Roache missing the flight due to illness.

A day after the Warriors were granted permission to fly into Tamworth ahead of the NRL's May 28 resumption, Roache was unable to catch the team's charter flight after feeling unwell.

Channel 7 first reported the 24-year-old was not given permission to board the private flight after he disclosed he had cold-like symptoms on Sunday morning, adding Roache did not come into close contact with any other player on the NRL team.

Later on Sunday, the Warriors confirmed Roache's situation.

"Nate called the club first thing this morning saying he wasn't feeling well," Warriors CEO Cameron George said.

"He was instructed to have a test immediately and was told not to report at the airport as he would not be travelling with the team.

"We're totally satisfied Nate has had no contact with any other player or staff member at the club for several weeks and we're very comfortable we have abided by all policies and requirements."

Meanwhile, centre David Fusitu'a also remained in New Zealand "on compassionate grounds" according to the club.
