Ivan Marcone set to move from Cruz Azul to Boca Juniors - source

Cruz Azul midfielder Ivan Marcone is set to complete a transfer to Argentine giant Boca Juniors, a source close to the negotiations told ESPN Mexico.

The 28-year-old former Independiente player was key in helping Cruz Azul reach the 2018 Apertura final last season and win the Copa MX. The transfer fee is close to $8 million, according to the source.

Marcone will be pushing for a place in Lionel Scaloni's Argentina squad at next summer's Copa America in Brazil, and his absence in Pedro Caxinha's midfield at Cruz Azul will leave a significant hole.

The player has already said farewell to his teammates, and he left Cruz Azul's training complex La Noria through a side exit to avoid awaiting media.

Over at Liga MX champion Club America, Diego Lainez's future has been the subject of frenzied speculation, with Real Betis and Ajax in the hunt for the 18-year-old's signature.

America and Betis directors met in Mexico City on Wednesday morning to discuss a transfer that could be worth up to $17 million, according to ESPN's Leon Lecanda, and a future transfer of Andres Guardado in the other direction could be part of the negotiations.

Paraguay international winger Cecilio Dominguez has also been the subject of an offer to leave Club America and move to Argentine club Independiente, according to TyC Sports. El Rojo is willing to pay a club record $6 million for 70 percent of the 24-year-old's rights, the report says.

One player not likely to be going anywhere this transfer window is Pachuca's Victor Guzman, who has regularly been linked with a move to Europe, including to Atletico Madrid.

Pachuca president Jesus Martinez told ESPN's Los Capitanes on Wednesday that the club has already rejected some "impressive offers" from Europe for the Mexico midfielder and that the 23-year-old needs six more months in Mexico before setting sail.

Martinez also said he's been in contact with Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, indicating that the midfielder -- who is out of contract in the summer -- has offers from "big teams" in Europe.
