Roque Santa Cruz’s agent has claimed the striker could return to South America this summer after having talks with Brazilian side Botafogo.
Santa Cruz, 31, is still on Manchester City’s books but has spent the season on loan with Malaga after falling down the pecking order under Roberto Mancini, only managing 24 appearances in all competitions since signing from Blackburn in 2009.
City would be keen to get the striker off their wage bill as they look to streamline their squad this summer and Robson Lima, Santa Cruz’s representative has told Lancenet that a deal could already be underway.
"Talks were very good, Botafogo are a very serious club. The player is excited about the possibility," he said. "We are negotiating with Botafogo but we can't say if the deal will work out in the end."
