Elgin slipped out of the promotion play-off zone in the Ladbrokes Scottish League Two table after a disappointing goalless draw at Stirling.
Lewis McLear came close to giving the home side the perfect start, but struck the post with his effort, while at the other end, Stirling striker Steven Doris turned stopper as he cleared a Jamie Duff header off his own line.
The Binos reasserted themselves, and Sean Dickson forced City goalkeeper Mark Hurst into a spectacular save.
After the break, Darren Smith made a burst through the middle for the hosts but fired just wide, and in a nip-and-tuck battle Daniel Moore had the final chance for City, but dragged his shot wide.
