Montpellier's hope of a late charge for European qualification in Ligue 1 continue to fade after they had to settle for a goalless draw away at Strasbourg.
Last season's Ligue 2 champions have been strong at home this campaign while Montpellier have scored just nine times on the road so perhaps a share of the points was not a huge surprise.
Each team went close to scoring with headers during the first half. Giovanni Sio glanced an effort wide from a Ruben Aguilar cross for the visitors before home striker Jeremy Blayac nodded the ball over the crossbar.
The first noteworthy save had to be made by Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte, who got down to his right to smother a 25-yard strike from Pablo Martinez at the start of the second half.
Opposite number Alexandre Oukidja had to make a similar stop shortly afterwards to keep out Isaac Mbenza's strike.
Oukidja saved another effort from Sio midway through the second half and Blayac headed the ball over again for the hosts as neither side were able to find a breakthrough.
