New England Revolution stay hot in win over Montreal Impact

Forward Adam Buksa had one goal and one assist to help the New England Revolution notch a 3-2 victory over the host Montreal Impact on Wednesday night at Harrison, New Jersey.

Teal Bunbury scored his team-best sixth goal of the campaign and fellow midfielder Kekuta Manneh also found the back of the net as the Revolution (7-4-7, 28 points) improved to 4-1-2 over their last seven matches.

Midfielders Amar Sejdic and Ballou Tabla scored goals for Montreal (6-10-2, 20 points), which fell to 1-6-1 over its last eight matches. Forward Romell Quioto assisted on both tallies.

The Impact hosted the game at Red Bull Arena due to Canada's COVID-19 protocols that limit travel in and out of the country.

James Pantemis made six saves in his first appearance in goal for Montreal. Regular goalkeeper Clement Diop left the team for personal reasons on Wednesday and traveled to his native France.

The Impact also transferred midfielder Saphir Taider to Saudi Arabian club Al Ain FC on Wednesday. Taider had 20 goals and 21 assists in 76 matches over parts of three seasons for Montreal.

Matt Turner had four saves for New England.

The Revolution had a 22-14 edge in shots and placed nine on target. The Impact put six on goal.

New England got on the board in the 13th minute when Buksa made a short-range pass to Manneh, who easily tapped the shot past Pantemis.

The Revolution made it 2-0 seven minutes later when defender Alexander Buttner sent a left-footed pass to Bunbury, who headed the ball into the net.

Montreal cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 27th minute as Quioto dribbled in close and delivered a centering pass to Sejdic, who sent a left-footed shot past Turner.

New England restored the two-goal edge in the 52nd minute. Buksa fought off two defenders and Pantemis came out to make a leg save but Buksa got the rebound and booted it into the net.

Montreal narrowed the gap in the second minute of second-half stoppage time as Quioto got the ball through traffic to Tabla, who sent the ball past Turner.
