Damir Kreilach's late response earns Real Salt Lake draw at FC Dallas

Dallas and Real Salt Lake share the spoils (1:45)

FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake take a point apiece after a 2-2 draw at Toyota Stadium. (1:45)

Damir Kreilach scored on a header in the 86th minute to lift Real Salt Lake to a 2-2 draw over FC Dallas on Saturday in a Western Conference dustup in Frisco, Texas.

The match, played in a steady drizzle at the start and throughout the second half, was knotted at 1-1 until a late flurry from both teams.

First, FCD's Ryan Hollingshead scored in the 84th minute on a shot that deflected into the net off Salt Lake defender Justen Glad to put the home side on top.

But Kreilach answered, fighting off a Dallas defender inside the 6-yard box to get his head on a pass from Aaron Herrera and direct it past FCD goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer for the equalizer.

Rubio Rubin got RSL on the board with a left-footed goal in the 20th minute, turning while in the box after a pass from Nick Besler and beating Maurer low to the right side of the net.

The goal came less than a minute after Salt Lake missed out on a rare 4-on-1 breakaway that didn't even produce a shot on target.

Dallas leveled the match in the 43rd minute on a penalty kick by Franco Jara, who calmly placed his ball in the lower right corner, opposite of the direction that RSL goalkeeper David Ochoa dove in error. The penalty kick was awarded after RSL's Marcelo Silva fouled Jader Obrian in the box.

FCD dominated the statistics, outpossessing Real Salt Lake 62.2 percent to 37.8 percent, amassing 29 shots to just 11 from the visitors with a 10-3 edge on shots on target, racking up 15 corner kicks (a season-high) to one for RSL, and earning a 518-328 advantage in total passes.

The wet conditions had an effect on things in the early going and after halftime, with plenty of slipping by the players and the ball skidding along the wet pitch.
