Colorado Rapids blank FC Dallas for fourth win in five games

Keegan Rosenberry and Michael Barrios scored and the Colorado Rapids also took advantage of an FC Dallas own goal while recording a sharp 3-0 triumph on Saturday night at Commerce City, Colo.

William Yarbrough made six saves while notching his third clean sheet of the season as the Rapids won for the fourth time in the past five games. Jack Price and Cole Bassett had assists.

Barrios definitely was excited about his goal, as he spent the previous six seasons with FC Dallas and had 31 goals and 45 assists for the club. Saturday's goal was his second in a Colorado uniform.

FC Dallas is winless over their last four matches (0-2-2).

Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer had three saves for FC Dallas, which held a 21-13 edge in shots. Dallas put six shots on target, while the Rapids had five.

Colorado struck first in the 13th minute when Price set up Rosenberry, who unleashed a right-footed, long-range rocket that sailed into the lower left corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

The Rapids had a major opportunity late in the first half when they were awarded a penalty kick after Nicolas Mazquida was taken down in the box by Bressan.

Diego Rubio lined up in the 40th minute to take the kick and Maurer guessed right by moving to his left and making the save.

But one minute later, Colorado made it 2-0 as Auston Trusty sent a left-footed shot on goal. Maurer made the save but the ball caromed off the arm of Tanner Tessmann and into the net for an own goal.

FC Dallas had two solid chances early in the second half.

In the 47th minute, Tessmann delivered a powerful right-footer that Yarbrough got his left hand on before it smacked into the crossbar. Six minutes later, Paxton Pomykal sent a left-footed shot toward the left corner of the net but a diving Yarbrough got a hand on the ball to knock it away.

The missed chances were magnified in the 71st minute when Barrios haunted his former teammates with a top-notch individual effort.

Barrios won a run down the left side to retrieve a long pass from Bassett. He began dribbling to his right, created some space and then drilled a right-footed shot into the top right corner of the net.
