Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room made back-to-back saves on Buksa in the 90th minute to preserve the tie. Room injured his thigh in the 86th minute but the Crew had used all their substitutes, so he stayed in and made the spectacular stops.
He had five saves for the game.
New England is 10-1-2 in the past 13 games and still on pace to better the record for most points, 72 by Los Angeles FC in 2019, and the points-per-game mark of 2.13 of the 1998 Los Angeles Galaxy. The Revolution are at 2.15.
Buksa took advantage of lax passing in the back by the Crew to steal the ball and beat Room.
Columbus is 2-1-2 in its past five games.
The Revolution could have set the franchise record for victories on a season, surpassing the 17 in 2005 and 2014.
New England won the first meeting 1-0 at home on May 16. The Crew rallied from down two for a 2-2 tie in Columbus on July 3.
The Revolution entered Saturday with a 14-point lead over Nashville SC in the Eastern Conference and a nine-point Supporters' Shield advantage over Sporting KC with nine matches left.
Columbus, the reigning MLS Cup champion, was three points below the playoff line in the Eastern Conference and has eight games to make up ground.
The Revolution play at the Chicago Fire on Wednesday. The Crew are home to Montreal next Saturday.
