Eric Gomez is a freelance writer who covers Mexico's national team for ESPN Insider. Born in Chula Vista, California to Mexican parents, his first exposure to the beautiful game came from watching a documentary on Pele's stint with the New York Cosmos, which featured a cameo from a certain Mexican star named Hugo Sanchez. Based in Mexico City, he has covered El Tri through World Cup qualifiers, Gold Cups, Copa America and Olympic qualifiers.
