Landon Donovan could leave for Europe

August, 2, 2012

During the Los Angeles Galaxy's 3-1 victory over city rival Chivas USA last month, a match the Galaxy won on the strength of Landon Donovan's 123rd and 124th career MLS goals, Prime Ticket color commentator Allen Hopkins did some quick arithmetic in the broadcast booth to predict when Donovan might surpass Jeff Cunningham's all-time league mark of 134.

"He could break the record sometime next season," said Hopkins.

"It's not a matter of if," said play-by-play man Mark Rogondino, "but when."

Luke Cyphers is a former senior writer for ESPN The Magazine.
