Hot List: Cameron continues to impress

December, 24, 2012

It has been some time since our last Hot List, which was intended to be a semi-frequent look at national team-eligible players who are trending up (and sometimes down) with their foreign clubs.

But after Insider's ranking of the Top 25 American soccer players made its debut last week -- and with European seasons at the midway point -- now is a perfect time to dust off the conceit and take a look at who is trending up overseas.

Warming up

Geoff Cameron, D, Stoke City (England)

Why he's here: Stoke has one of the stingiest defenses in Europe this season -- and Cameron's a major reason why. Since moving to England from MLS in August, Cameron has been one of the top shut-down backs in the Premier League; following Saturday's scoreless draw at Tottenham, the former Houston Dynamo star is fifth in the Premier League in both tackles and interceptions. "He's been incredible," says ESPN analytics specialist Albert Larcada. "His numbers are off the charts for a veteran defender, much less a first-year player."
