Kyle Beckerman could start in Honduras
It's not easy to come up with three standout performances after the national team second-string's mind-numbing scoreless tie against Canada in Houston on Tuesday night. In fact, it's just about impossible. The beautiful game this wasn't.
Given the scoreline, the reflex is to look at the back four. Most of the attention before the match was focused on the central defense pairing of Matt Besler and Omar Gonzalez. But while the record will show that the duo helped the Yanks keep a clean sheet against the Canucks, this wasn't the best test. The visitors fielded a young, inexperienced team that was content to sit back and defend for most of the match, ultimately successfully. Because of this, the U.S. defense didn't have much to do (the Canadians had just one shot on goal all night), and we didn't really learn much about either player over the 90 minutes.
No, the critical eyes must be focused further upfield this evening, and on the midfield and front line in particular. Here are the three biggest takeaways.
