Will Jozy Altidore make the U.S. roster?

May, 15, 2013

Here's a pretty amazing stat: Since scoring his last goal for the U.S. national team on Nov. 15, 2011, Jozy Altidore has found the net 39 times with Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

Yes, comparing tightly contested, defense-heavy international games with ones played in the Netherlands' wide-open Eredivisie is comparing apples to oranges, but it's a pretty amazing stat nonetheless.

That's not to say that the reason for Altidore's drought with the Yanks is some sort of mystery. He just isn't getting the service, and at the highest level, he's never been the sort of forward who makes something out of nothing on his own.

But explaining exactly why he isn't getting the ball in dangerous positions is harder to pinpoint.
