While the rest of the world was still dealing with the shock that hockey’s next generational talent is heading to Edmonton, you could almost hear the wheels turning in the mind of Oilers' general manager Craig MacTavish on what this means to his team.

He admitted his palms were starting to sweat while watching Bill Daly open envelopes on the small screen of his iPad while he is in Switzerland scouting the IIHF under-18 world championships. When Daly revealed the gold Edmonton Oilers card -- meaning the Oilers had won the lottery, and with it, the rights to select Connor McDavid first overall in June -- McTavish’s entire future was altered.

He called it a game-changer. That’s a good start.
