Javia Hall ready for second chance at FBS

The season is over for junior college quarterback Javia Hall (Athens, Texas/Trinity Valley Community College). While Trinity Valley didn’t have the season he wanted, he was happy to be a part of the program and basically get a do-over on the college football level.

Now it’s time for Hall to begin reconsidering playing for an FBS program. A UTEP transfer, Hall chose to take the junior college route after a lack of playing time at UTEP, leaving as a redshirt freshman. As a 6-foot-1, 185-pound sophomore, Hall now is looking to re-establish himself as an FBS quarterback.

“I’ve had a good time [at Trinity Valley]. I’ve gotten to meet some new people I’ll never forget,” Hall said. “There’s not too much difference in talent here. These guys are really talented.

“Basically, I wanted to get a fresh start. I wanted to get on the field and play. I’d been on the bench at UTEP, and it was real frustrating at times. Knowing at times you should be playing and learning new things, it was frustrating, but I made a decision to come to Trinity Valley and better myself so I can get another shot.”

Hall, a former standout at Dallas Skyline High School, chose UTEP in January 2010 over offers from New Mexico and North Texas. While Hall is still looking for his first offer after junior college ball, New Mexico is back in the picture and is showing interest. Hall said he would take an official visit if the current interest turns into an offer.

“When I played at UTEP, I had a chance to visit there twice -- once when we played them in New Mexico and again when we played in the New Mexico bowl,” Hall said. “I like the city [of Albuquerque]. It’s a cool city, and the people are real friendly out there.”

Trinity Valley finished the year 3-6 and closed its schedule last week with a 37-16 loss to Tyler (Texas) Junior College. Hall said the victories might not have come how he wanted, but the lessons learned under the Trinity Valley coaching staff will prove to be very beneficial.

“I’m taking things more seriously. That’s the main thing,” Hall said. “This is an opportunity you’re not always able to get. It’s the same story, different person, and I’ve just got to take advantage of the opportunity.”
