It was pretty simple for quarterback Austin Valdez (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview). Bowling Green was the perfect fit.
“I think everything all around impressed me,” said Valdez, who committed Sunday after visiting the campus for a third time Thursday. “The coaches are great to me. They welcomed me right away. The facility is great and the way it’s set up is real nice.”
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound pocket passer plays in a wide-open offense at Southview, and he said that should help him translate well into Bowling Green’s offense, possibly enough to allow for him to play early.
“We run a spread and [offensive coordinator Warren] Ruggiero believes that I fit perfectly in the offense, because they run a similar offense," Valdez said. "I guess they have older quarterbacks, because he said if I work hard enough I could be playing.”
Valdez also plays lacrosse and basketball but plans on spending the summer preparing for his senior season.
“I think my arm strength is good, footwork is good. I just got to get stronger and a little bit faster,” he said.
Bowling Green has three commitments in its 2013 class. Receiver Mike Rogers committed on June 14, the same day Valdez was last on campus.
