It was a mixed bag for the Sooners this recruiting weekend. On one hand, a lot of top commits scheduled to make official visits had to pull out at the last minute.
But on the other, the Sooners made several quality impressions on recruits that did make the trip for OU’s loss to Notre Dame.
It was the first time ESPN 150 defensive tackle Greg Gilmore (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) got to see the OU campus, and he called the experience “mind-blowing.”
The weekend was also a huge one for commits as a number of verbal pledges were on hand including four ESPN 300 recruits in running back Keith Ford (Cypress, Texas/Ranch), defensive end D.J. Ward (Moore, Okla./Southmoore), athlete Stanvon Taylor (Tulsa, Okla./East Central) and safety Hatari Byrd (Fresno, Calif./Central East).
OU wasn’t able to nab any commitments from the weekend but have positioned itself in a nice spot for Arkansas commit Dominique Alexander (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington), who made an unofficial visit as well as several top 2014 prospects.
Four-star recruits that were forced to cancel or postpone their visit were ESPN 150 wide receiver Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee), ESPN 300 ATH Adrian Baker (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna) and Fresno (Calif.) Central East cornerbacks L.J. Moore and Johnny Johnson Jr.
