The top five quarterbacks in the 2018 class are already committed, and since quarterbacks tend to make their commitments early in the process, it’s starting to become slim pickings for teams needing signal-callers.
The top two quarterbacks in the class, Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, have been committed since December, which helped get the ball rolling for other quarterback prospects. This week alone, two ESPN 300 quarterbacks -- No. 71 Justin Rogers, who committed to TCU, and No. 149 Tanner Mordecai picked Oklahoma. There are currently only five uncommitted ESPN 300 quarterbacks remaining in this class and even more could come off the board soon.
Here is a look at who’s left and what’s next in their recruitment.
Corona, California/Centennial
ESPN 300 rank: 48
McKee has taken quite a few visits over the spring that included BYU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Duke. He hasn’t narrowed his list down, but would like to do so within the next month.
“I won’t commit until later in the fall,” McKee said. “Alabama, BYU, Texas, Washington, UCLA, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Stanford and Georgia are the schools I probably talk to the most.”
McKee is an interesting prospect because he plans to take a two-year Mormon mission trip after he graduates. That essentially makes him a 2020 recruit for the teams recruiting him.
“My mission doesn’t really factor into my choice,” he said. “All of the schools that have offered me are fine with it.”
Earle, Arkansas
ESPN 300 rank: 117
Bohanon was going to commit on May 19, then decided to wait. He released a top six of Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, Louisville, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
“I just felt that it would be better for me to wait and make sure I visited everyone,” Bohanon said. “Other schools could get in the top list. If they offer me, I’ve basically visited everyone, but if they offer me I would be interested.”
The No. 7 dual-threat prospect has not set a new decision date and his commitment might not come until after his senior season.
It looked as though Mississippi State was a big player for Bohanon, but fellow ESPN 300 quarterback Jalen Mayden recently committed to the Bulldogs, which could help the other teams in his top list.
Lancaster, California/Paraclete
ESPN 300 rank: 193
White saw his older brother Brady go through the process in the 2015 class and eventually commit to Arizona State. Brevin has seen his recruitment take off and has quite a few options of his own, including Memphis with head coach Mike Norvell, who recruited his older brother at Arizona State.
White has been quiet about offers and favorites.
North Carolina hosted the No. 11-ranked pocket passer, but is yet to offer him. If the Tar Heels decide to get in the mix, they could have a good shot at landing White, who could decide in the next few months.
Bolivar, Tennessee/Bolivar Central
ESPN 300 rank: 228
Lowe is planning to make his commitment in the near future, sometime in the first week of July, but still has some visits he is planning to take. The No. 13-ranked pocket-passer will visit North Carolina, Charlotte and West Virginia in the next few weeks.
The 6-foot-3, 196-pound prospect says West Virginia, Illinois, North Carolina, Southern Mississippi, Charlotte, Memphis and Arkansas State are schools that are showing interest.
There is still time for things to change, especially with his visit to West Virginia, but Illinois and Southern Miss are two teams that are watching this one closely.
Jacksonville, Florida/Providence School
ESPN 300 rank: 254
Bradley has only recently garnered interest from bigger programs. He has seen his stock rise as other quarterbacks continue to commit and come off team’s board. Bradley, the No. 15-ranked pocket-passer, is the son of NFL coach Gus Bradley and has the pedigree to be an excellent quarterback in college.
Rutgers, Indiana, Louisville, Wisconsin and Pitt have been showing interest, but if more QBs come off the board, more big-time offers could come. If he doesn’t commit in the near future, he could have quite a few options to choose from.
