ESPN 150 defensive lineman Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly Co.) has been asked countless times if he has a top school or top two. Although he has yet to announce any leader, there has been plenty of speculation that the Tigers, either from the ACC or SEC, are on top. The No. 11 prospect in the country is aware of the prognostications.
“People say that Auburn and Clemson are my leaders, but that is not really accurate,” Adams said. “I like both of them, but I really do not have a top one or top two schools yet. That is just how people put it out there. They might have the advantage of me knowing about them more, but if I visit another school and I like it there, that could be the place for me.”
It just so happens that Adams took a visit last weekend, but unlike others this fall, this one involved his mother. To date, only Auburn has had his mom on campus during the spring. That could be huge for the Gators’ chances of signing the four-star prospect.
“I had a great time at Florida with my momma, a couple of my teammates,” Adams said. “My mom said she liked just about everything about Florida and that she loves the coaching staff there. My mom is very important in my recruitment.”
Adams was able to see Florida knock off LSU 14-6, with the Tigers ranked No. 4 coming into the game. He said his experience in Gainesville was a memorable one.
“That was the best game I have been to,” Adams said. “Florida did a lot better than I expected, so I was very surprised. I loved everything and I have liked Florida for a while but after seeing them play and how the coaches coach, I like them more. What stands out to me about Florida is how they are family-based and just being in the atmosphere and spending time with the coaches.”
After the game, the staff at Florida made their pitch to Adams -- to help them continue the type of performance he saw at the Swamp.
“The coaches told me they want me to come in and do the same thing they have their players doing right now,” Adams said. “All of the coaches said if I came to Florida, they would give me the opportunity to start as a true freshman. They told me I have the potential to be a great player. Learning from a coach like Bryant Young, who just got nominated for the Hall of Fame, I know I would be a great player.”
Before he returned home to Georgia, Adams was asked to return, with his mother.
“They said they want me to bring my mom back up for an official,” Adams said. “I told them I would think about it. I do not know when I will set my officials yet, but the only ones I know I want to take are still Oregon, USC and LSU.”
He has no plans to visit anywhere this week.
