Miami at Virginia Tech

Balance and depth will win out for Miami when the Hurricanes travel to Virginia Tech.

Miami offense vs. Virginia Tech defense

• Offensive coordinator Mark Whipple has done an excellent job of generating mismatches for his unit, and sophomore QB Jacory Harris is seeing the field well and using all of his various weapons. WR Travis Benjamin is the speedster of the group and generally works out of the slot. Benjamin was the team's leading receiver in the opener, but he took a back seat to perimeter weapons LaRon Byrd and Leonard Hankerson versus Georgia Tech. Six-foot-4, 215-pound Byrd is a sophomore and an emerging star, and Hankerson (6-3, 215) is a junior with the size and speed to stretch the field vertically. Athletic tight end Dedrick Epps and versatile RBs Javarris James and Graig Cooper also are involved in the passing game, and the end result is that opposing defenses are not able to focus on just one or two receivers, so it is an even greater risk than usual to cheat a safety into the box and/or send extra defenders on the blitz.
