Modest scoreboards for No. 1

1. With Alabama's 12-10 win over Tennessee this past Saturday, The Associated Press poll's No. 1-ranked team has now gone three straight games without scoring 24 points. The previous two weeks, Florida was the top-ranked team and beat Arkansas 23-20 and LSU 13-3. This is the first time since 1963 that the No. 1 team has won three consecutive games while scoring fewer than 24 points.

2. After eight full weeks of play this season, seven of the top eight teams in the AP poll have a perfect record. This is the first time that has happened since 1971. That year, the top seven teams were all perfect at this point, and three of them finished the regular season without a blemish.

3. Michigan has lost nine of its past 11 Big Ten games dating back to last season. That's the worst stretch in conference play for the Wolverines since 1961 to '63, when they went 1-9-1 in 11 Big Ten games. The good news for Michigan: Next on the schedule is Illinois (0-5 in conference play this season).
