Spring practice is finished, and the recruiting cycle for the 2014 class is well under way. With the first quarter of the recruiting calendar behind us, here's a look at how the Pac-12 is faring on the trail.
Arizona Wildcats
Who they have: The Wildcats have three commitments, including a big one from ESPN 150 athlete Cameron Denson (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic). Running back Nick Wilson (Fresno, Calif./Central) gives Arizona one of the top big backs in the West and a foot in the door at a school full of talent. Tight end Nick Nataro (Estero, Calif./Estero) is a big body who can fit into the Wildcats' offense.
Who they want: Arizona has offered a ton of recruits at this point but will make the biggest push in-state and in Southern California, where it was very successful last year. Quarterback Kyle Allen (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) would be huge to keep at home, as would cornerback Tyler Whiley (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral). Two-way lineman Sharif Williams (Fresno, Calif./Central) would be a big add as Wilson's teammate and landing cornerback Naijiel Hale (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) would give the Wildcats plenty of credibility in California.
Spring storyline: If Davonte' Neal is granted a hardship waiver and allowed to play for Arizona in 2013 after transferring from Notre Dame, he won't just help Arizona on the field, he'll offer a huge recruiting boost, as well. Neal is a well-known player for recruits in the 2014 class, and seeing a former Arizona prep standout doing well for the Wildcats could convince some of the state's incredibly impressive talent to stay home come signing day.
Bold prediction: Denson is just the start to the Wildcats' in-state haul. He will do his best to serve as a rallying point for Arizona's targets and will help coach Rich Rodriguez land several more ESPN 300 targets from the state. -- Erik McKinney
Scouts' overall trend: Even. Rodriguez's first full class was one of the stronger ones the Wildcats have signed in recent years with four four-star prospects, led by ESPN 300 athlete Samajie Grant. Their 2014 class has gotten off to a solid start with three verbals, including one from Denson. For a program that finished in the middle of the conference, it might be a bit premature to say things are truly trending up in recruiting, but if the Wildcats can continue to build off their start, things will be heading in that direction. -- Craig Haubert
