Wherever a recruit decides to compete in college basketball, there is a huge learning curve to become a productive player, much less a dominating one. To succeed in college hoops, the combination of opportunity and commitment (and yes, talent) determines future success.
The players below have power conference talent but decided for different reasons to attend schools outside the "big six" power conferences -- and in college hoops, that label means far less than it does in college football. So although these guys may not be playing in high-major conferences, here are 10 freshmen who will be major factors for their teams this season and potentially beyond.

1. Anthony Bennett, F, UNLV Rebels
2012 ESPN 100 Rank: No. 7
Bennett has the build of a power forward but the height of a small forward, which will create terrific mismatches with his 7-foot-1 wingspan. He can play with power in the post or be a finesse player with a jumper and drive on the perimeter. As he works on improving his body even more in college, he'll be able to move like a small forward while finishing plays like a big man. He should also be able to rebound on both ends with his frame and physical tools.
