The halcyon days of the Tony Bennett era are rapidly becoming a distant memory in the Palouse, where the Washington State Cougars have slipped back to the bottom of the Pac-12 conference. Bennett left successor Ken Bone a talented young roster led by Klay Thompson, and the Cougars were a .500 team in conference play during Bone's second season and Thompson's last in Pullman. Since then, the team has regressed, and only an upset of UCLA during the final week of conference play kept Washington State from sole possession of the cellar in 2012-13.
