Indians, Mets the 'cool' wild-card favorites

A few notes upon returning from a week's vacation, during which I didn't really pay a whole lot of attention to Big-Time Baseball (though I couldn't resist checking the scores every night) ...

  • As you've probably heard, the Nationals haven't scored a run in their last 21 innings. To this, GM Jim Bowden says, "This isn't a problem of one or two guys. We have an embarrassing problem of all eight. Zero offense."

Which is a fair point, I suppose, but perhaps not the problem you might think. Don't get me wrong: The Nationals aren't good hitters. But they've averaged 4.12 runs in their road games; the Braves have averaged 4.3, the Phillies 4.26. They're not good, but they're not really all that bad, either.
