Lohse made himself a significant amount of money with some solid pitching down the stretch for Philadelphia, although Kaz Matsui may have dented that payday in the National League Division Series. Lohse is a standard four-pitch pitcher but lacks an out pitch; his fastball is 91-94 mph, and he has a hard slider around 85-86 mph as well as a straight change and a curveball. His control is excellent, but the combination of too much contact and too many home runs has kept him at or below league-average his entire career.
