On Friday, the Washington Wizards acquired Phoenix Suns center Marcin Gortat in return for the injured Emeka Okafor and a protected 2014 first-round pick, as first reported by Marc Stein of ESPN.com. In addition, the Wizards also received Shannon Brown, Kendall Marshall and Malcolm Lee, all of whom are expected to be immediately released.
Here's a breakdown of all the basketball assets involved in the deal:
Marcin Gortat
The centerpiece of this deal is Gortat, a 6-foot-11 center who is a good finisher out of the pick-and-roll and a very good rebounder. In his first two seasons in Phoenix, he flourished playing alongside Steve Nash as a target in pick-and-rolls, where his speed, agility and footwork allowed him to roll hard to the basket and finish. However, Gortat is not an above-the-rim athlete, and he can have problems finishing over length.
