Sometimes a matchup just doesn't materialize. Last week, one we wanted to keep an eye on was outstanding Kentucky CB Trevard Lindley against Florida WR Riley Cooper. While Cooper finished with just a pair of catches and 30 yards, the value of the matchup suffered because Florida was up 31-0 before most people realized the game had started. As we get deeper into conference play, tendencies are better analyzed and the tape piles up, so we should see some better matchups. Of course, there's always a chance a team creates a game plan just to avoid one.
Still, there's plenty to look for this weekend.
All games take place on Saturday and are listed in order of start time.
South Florida Bulls at Syracuse Orange (Noon ET, ESPN360)
USF CB Jerome Murphy versus Syracuse WR Mike Williams:
Don't be completely distracted by the line play, where South Florida has a pair of future NFL defensive ends in George Selvie and Jason Pierre-Paul -- and Syracuse has stellar defensive tackle Arthur Jones. Keep an eye on Murphy, a big corner at 6-foot and 185 pounds, and Williams, who at 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds has had a huge year so far (28 receptions, 437 yards). If Murphy can neutralize Williams at all, Syracuse could have a really tough time scoring.
