Front-office priorities
What management's to-do list should include this offseason.
1. Priority No. 1 has to be protecting Andrew Luck, which means upgrading at center and guard via free agency or the draft. Cap space is not an issue. Their projected cash spending heading into the 2014 league year is second-lowest in the league at $73.4 million with 60 contracts, so they have the means to go and get players they want.
2. Getting weapons to complement WR T.Y. Hilton on the outside is important, as the Colts can't afford to count on Reggie Wayne to return as strong as he was previously while coming back from reconstructive knee surgery at age 35. The return of TE Dwayne Allen will be huge, and TE Coby Fleener needs to take another step in his third season.
3. The Colts need to make it work with RB Trent Richardson, which starts up front with improvements to the offensive line but also involves his being in shape and comfortable and competing 100 percent at all times. It will be interesting to see what kind of effect the presence of newly hired Rob Chudzinski will have on Richardson's development, seeing as how he was the Browns' head coach when they traded Richardson away last season.
