This is the Offseason Blueprint for the San Diego Chargers.
Front-office priorities
What management's to-do list should include this offseason.
1. Cap moves to be made include possible reductions/casualties such as offensive lineman Jeromey Clary ($6.2 million cap hit), and defensive back Derek Cox ($5.5 million). Le'Ron McClain has been cut.
2. Continue to add depth along the offensive line, particularly at guard and left tackle, allowing offensive line coach Joe D'Alessandris to develop a cohesive unit that is greater than the sum of its parts. A protected Philip Rivers was great in 2013 -- keeping him protected must be a priority.
3. Draft another running back who can help Ryan Mathews carry the load and stay healthier during the latter parts of the regular season. Mathews has now played in 54 NFL games, and you can never assume full health at that position.
4. The Chargers need an outside linebacker/pass-rusher, preferably from the draft given their cap situation.
5. They need upgrades at corner in a big way. Cox is a free-agent bust, and Shareece Wright is average.
