England captain Owen Farrell has announced he will take a break from international rugby and will not be available for the 2024 Six Nations.
Tries by Anthony Watson, Kyle Sinckler and Ollie Lawrence propelled England to a nervy 20-10 victory over Wales in a scruffy Six Nations encounter on Saturday that showed how much both teams have to do to become competitive in the championship.
France ended Scotland's hopes of a Six Nations Grand Slam with a 32-21 victory in a high-octane, nail-biting clash with both sides reduced to 14 men early on at the Stade de France on Sunday.
Wing Mack Hansen scored a brace of tries as Ireland held off a spirited challenge from hosts Italy in Rome to claim a 34-20 bonus-point victory in the Six Nations and stay on course for a Grand Slam.
England captain Owen Farrell will miss the team's first two matches of the Rugby World Cup, namely the Pool D fixtures against Argentina and Japan, after being handed a four-match suspension.
Gregor Townsend will lead Scotland into the 2023 Rugby World Cup and through the following three Six Nations championships, but the new deal falls short of confirming he will coach the team into the 2027 World Cup.
