      Morecambe survive after battling draw at Coventry

      Morecambe secured their Football League status on goal difference after a battling 0-0 draw at Coventry City.The Shrimps had goalkeeper Barry Roche to thank for a number of superb stops after Barnet piled the pressure on with victory over Chesterfield.The draw also helped Coventry City set up a play-off date with Notts County.The Sky Blues started brightest with Roche tipping away Michael Doyle's powerful long-range effort after six minutes.Chris Stokes shot over before Jonson Clarke-Harris headed wide on 23 minutes as the Sky Blues stepped it up.Roche produced a superb instinctive save to keep out Clarke-Harris after 39 minutes as Morecambe continued to hang on.Kevin Ellison missed a great chance to give the visitors the lead when Lee Burge got the better of him in a one-on-one seven minutes after half-time.Roche got down well to save from Tom Bayliss in the 74th minute in a half of fewer chances.Clarke-Harris headed over from Liam Kelly's cross three minutes later, before Morecambe held on in a tense finish.

        Draw helps Morecambe move five points clear of relegation

        Morecambe moved five points clear of the bottom two with a 0-0 draw against Cambridge at the Globe Arena.It was Morecambe's 18th draw of the season but it may have been a vital point in their hopes of securing their Football League status.In a game of few chances, Cambridge almost snatched the three points at the death when a header from Morecambe defender Steven Old was cleared off his own line by Alex Kenyon.Jake Carroll also had a great chance after a late, flowing move that ended with a shot that flew over the bar and Harrison Dunk found the side netting as the U's ended the game on top.Before then Morecambe had the best chance when veteran Kevin Ellison diverted an Aaron McGowan cross wide from close range when he looked certain to score.Morecambe started the brighter and Callum Lang was played through on goal by Adam Campbell in the opening stages but saw his right-foot shot well saved by Dimitar Mitov low to his right hand side.Lang looked the Shrimps' biggest threat throughout the half and fired an effort over from a tight angle before Cambridge came into the game.George Maris produced their best moment with a 20-yard shot that forced a save form Barry Roche.

          Shaun Miller strike earns Crewe maximum points

          Shaun Miller came off the bench to grab the only goal of the game for Crewe and leave struggling Morecambe looking over their shoulders. In a poor-quality game, chances were at a premium, with the Shrimpers' Callum Lang missing the visitors' best opening when he failed to convert from close range in the second half.But Miller made no mistake as he fired a volley into the top corner in the 89th minute to take Crewe to the 50-point mark for the season.Early on, Jordan Bowery was thwarted by veteran goalkeeper Barry Roche, who saved with his legs after the in-form striker raced clear on the left of the box.Morecambe suffered a blow when the lively Garry Thompson crumpled on the turf with a serious-looking leg injury and departed on a stretcher. But they went close when skipper Michael Rose's low free-kick forced a fingertip save from Ben Garratt.Crewe finished the half the stronger and Luke Conlan was well-placed to block a Bowery effort and Roche was out bravely to save at the feet of Paul Green.But Lang should have put the visitors ahead after the break when he arrived onto substitute Gregg Wylde's cross, only to prod wide.It was a costly miss as Miller pounced after Eddie Nolan headed on from a corner.

            Battle of strugglers ends in draw

            The battle of the two League 2 strugglers ended all square as bottom club Chesterfield came from two goals down to earn a battling point at the Globe Arena.Despite Chesterfield enjoying the greater share of the possession in the first half the Shrimps took a 2-0 lead into the break after a close range header from Garry Thompson in the 17th minute from Michael Rose 's excellent cross and a fine Callum Lang effort 12 minutes from the break after he robbed the visitors' defence of possession and slotted the ball under Aaron Ramsdale from 12 yards out.Chesterfield boss Jack Lester made two changes at the break with Chris O'Grady and George Smith coming on and the changes quickly paid dividends as the visitors pulled one back through top scorer Kristian Dennis.The chance looked to have gone begging when Dennis initially failed to control the ball into the box but he recovered sharply and struck a stunning volley past Danijel Nizic from the left hand side of the box.The visitors then took charge and deservedly added a second with 15 minutes to go.Ramsdale drove a free kick into the Morecambe box and the ball was headed into the danger area for Andy Kellett to smash a half volley past Nizic from 12 yards out.Both teams went close to snatching victory at the end with Morecambe's Gregg Wylde smashing a close range effort over after 90 minutes and Louis Dodds almost sealing a superb fightback when he headed wide in injury time from Jason Brown's cross.

              Cheltenham cruise past Morecambe

              Three second-half goals secured a comfortable 3-0 home win for Cheltenham over Morecambe.Both goalkeepers pulled off outstanding saves during a goalless first period.Scott Flinders denied Kevin Ellison in the third minute and Ellison then crashed a shot against the post two minutes later as Morecambe made the brighter start.Cheltenham improved and Harry Pell forced Danijel Nizic into a smart stop with a header from Joe Morrell's free-kick in the 21st minute.Another Morrell delivery was headed towards goal by Will Boyle, but Nizic was again equal to it after half an hour.Pell glanced a Morrell free-kick wide in the 56th minute, but the breakthrough came two minutes later.Jerell Sellars beat two defenders and then saw his shot take a deflection and loop up and over the despairing dive of Nizic for his first Whaddon Road goal and second of the season.Boyle headed in the second in the 65th minute after a Pell nod down and Pell headed in George Lloyd's accurate cross at the far post to round off the scoring in the 73rd minute.

                Luke Norris penalty earns Swindon share of the spoils against Morecambe

                Luke Norris scored a second-half penalty to cancel out Callum Lang's eighth goal of the season as Morecambe and Swindon played out a 1-1 draw at County Ground.Lang beat the offside trap and coolly slotted past Stuart Moore in the first half before Norris scored from the spot, as Phil Brown's first home game in charge of the Robins ended in a draw. Morecambe were forced into an early change when goalkeeper Barry Roche went off injured and was replaced by Danijel Nizic. The Shrimps took the lead two minutes before half time when Vadaine Oliver won possession and played Lang through one-on-one with Moore, before the striker found the bottom corner of the net. Swindon almost equalised through Ben Purkiss but the defender's goalbound header was brilliantly pushed onto the post by Nizic. Swindon were awarded a penalty early in the second half when Norris was pulled back at the far post, and the striker calmly tucked the spot kick away for his 14th goal of the campaign. Marc Richards missed a glorious chance for the hosts when he failed to connect with Matt Taylor's fierce low cross across the goal, as both teams shared the points.

                  Point apiece for Morecambe and Lincoln

                  Morecambe and Lincoln shared the spoils in a goalless battle at the Globe Arena.Lincoln had more opportunities with Scott Wharton denied by a superb Dean Winnard block after six minutes and Matt Green wasting a glorious chance two minutes from the break when he miscued from close range after running on to Matt Rhead's lay-off.The visitors continued to threaten after the break with Elliot Whitehouse getting on the end of several chances. The midfielder headed a Sam Habergham corner wide after 58 minutes when he should have done better and fired a shot inches wide on the turn.Morecambe looked more of a threat in the second half and Adam McGurk almost claimed a late victory with a free-kick from 25 yards which beat Ryan Allsop and struck the crossbar.Lincoln then went close in injury time when the ball fell nicely for Lee Frecklington but his effort went inches wide of the post.

                    Thompson goes closest as Morecambe held by Colchester

                    Morecambe's Garry Thompson went closest to breaking the deadlock as the home side shared the spoils with Colchester from a 0-0 draw at the Globe Arena.A game of low quality produced few chances, with the home side creating the better openings of the first half with Alex Kenyon and Gregg Wylde firing shots wide of the target.Their best effort came on the stroke of half-time when Adam McGurk drilled in a sweetly struck low shot from 25 yards that Sam Walker could only parry.But the keeper did well to react sharply and save the follow-up from Thompson with his legs.Colchester started the game well with Brennan Dickenson drilling an early effort wide before they were denied by the crossbar.A cross was flicked on by a Morecambe defender but hit the woodwork, although Barry Roche looked to have the effort covered.The visitors were sharper in the second half and went close to stealing the points after 75 minutes when Dickenson's inswinging free-kick was superbly saved by Roche.Morecambe had a late chance to win the game but Thompson volleyed Vadaine Oliver's knockdown over from close range before Mikael Mandron blazed wide in injury time from the angle when he should have done much better.
