Newport finished their home campaign with a flourish by beating Cambridge 2-1.
Mickey Demetriou gave Newport a first-half lead before Frank Nouble volleyed home to take the Exiles to within three points of their record League Two points tally.
George Maris made Newport sweat in the final 10 minutes, but his goal could not stop Cambridge from slipping into 13th.
The hosts piled on the pressure from the start and finally got the breakthrough in the 26th minute.
Ben Tozer's long throw was met by Mark O'Brien, who headed the ball down for defensive partner Demetriou to poke home from four yards out to make it 1-0.
Cambridge brought Barry Corr on at half-time to add some attacking threat, but it was County who showed their killer instinct.
Substitute Aaron Collins surged down the wing and crossed for Nouble, who volleyed the ball in at the back post for his 10th goal of the season after 59 minutes.
Billy Waters teed up Maris to fire into the bottom corner with nine minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late.
