Lance White is out as head coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers women's basketball team, the school announced Friday.
White had just concluded his fifth season, compiling a 42-99 record. The move comes two days after the 15-seed Panthers (10-20) fell in the first round of the ACC tournament to 10-seed Clemson.
"Coach White has been wholeheartedly dedicated to the betterment of his student-athletes and women's basketball at Pitt," athletic director Heather Lyke said in a statement. "I'm extremely grateful for his efforts and wish him only the very best moving forward, both personally and professionally."
Pitt was White's first head-coaching job after stints at Texas Tech and Florida State.
Pitt last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 2015 under then-head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio. That is also the last time the Panthers finished a season with a winning record.
The program has only had three other appearances in the NCAA tournament: 2007, 2008 and 2009.
